Patriot Pits

Patriot Pits FAQ

If you have grilling questions or need assistance with cooking equipment that isn't covered on this page, please feel free to contact us for more information or to explore our smoker FAQs.

What kind of maintenance should I do on my pit?

To maintain your cooking equipment, a coating of raw linseed oil applied at least once or twice a year is generally sufficient to protect the pit of your smoker. For those grilling questions you might have, it's best to apply the oil right after finishing a cook, while the smoker is still hot. This timing allows the oil to soak into the surface effectively, ensuring optimal protection as addressed in many smoker FAQs.

Should I get a cover for my pit?

You can certainly get a cover for your cooking equipment if you'd like to, just be aware that the material for the cover should be at least somewhat breathable to allow moisture to escape. Temperature changes can cause the steel to sweat, and if there's nowhere for the condensation to go, it will cause the steel to rust much more quickly. This is a common concern among those who have grilling questions, especially in the context of smoker FAQs.

Will the tires explode from the firebox heat?

No, the tires will not explode from the heat. Thanks to the thickness of the steel and the partial insulation in the firebox, the tires don't get hot enough to cause any issues. This is a common concern in grilling questions, but rest assured, it's a normal aspect of using your cooking equipment. For more insights, check out our smoker FAQs.

How many briskets can I cook at the same time?

The answer to grilling questions like this is entirely dependent upon the sizes of the pieces of meat you'll be cooking. This means it's not a question we can answer with any kind of certainty, especially when considering the variety of cooking equipment and smoker FAQs.

Do you offer the Cowboy Firebox?

The short answer to your grilling questions is - no. There are a few reasons why we don't incorporate additional features in our cooking equipment, and those are: - It could cause airflow issues, impacting how the smoker draws since it's an extra hole in the firebox. - It would result in a much dirtier firebox, as there would be drippings from whatever is being cooked, which could affect the smoke flavor for subsequent smoking sessions. - Most importantly, we are focused on creating the best smoker and smoking experience possible, not a unit that serves as an all-in-one solution. This is a common concern in smoker FAQs.

Will the pit hold steady temps in cold weather?

Yes, the pits hold steady temps very well in cold weather, making them reliable cooking equipment for outdoor chefs. Between the 3/8"-thick steel and the partially-insulated firebox, the only drop in temp you might experience is when you're opening the firebox fully to add wood, which addresses many grilling questions and smoker FAQs.

Do you make anything larger than the 120 or smaller than the 94?

The Freedom 94 is our smallest pit, and to date, we've only produced one unit larger than a 120, which was a custom build for a current customer. We would like to offer larger propane tank pits in the future to meet various cooking equipment needs, but sourcing the tanks locally is currently very challenging. For any grilling questions or smoker FAQs, feel free to reach out!

I plan on picking up my pit when it's done. Can I put it in the back of my truck?

Absolutely not. The pit is too large for most pickup beds and there is virtually no way to completely keep it from rocking back and forth in transit, which could lead to a broken back window. When it comes to cooking equipment, especially for those grappling with grilling questions, it's crucial to consider these factors. This is a common topic in smoker FAQs as well.

If I pay extra can I get bumped up in the order queue?

While this question may not fall under the typical grilling questions since it has only been asked once or twice, we feel it is important to state firmly and unequivocally that we will never compromise our values or integrity for the sake of making extra money on a pit. The ONLY time we will change the build order and work on a pit out of order is if a customer has specifically asked us to hold off on building their pit so that completion aligns with a more convenient time for them, reflecting our commitment to quality cooking equipment.
